The pawpaw is a family of the sweet snack and the cherimoya (Annonaceae) and the only genus that does not originate in the tropics but in North America. The species is therefore hardy and is a nice addition to the Dutch garden. The word pawpaw is probably derived from the word papaya, as the fruits are somewhat similar. However, the flesh of the pawpaw is white and tastes like banana or mango. The fruits can weigh up to 500 grams and are rich in proteins and vitamins.
The flowers are pollinated in nature by beetles and flies. Cross-pollination is necessary to get fruit, which requires you to grow several plants near each other to achieve that. Since the flowers give off only a light scent and there may be a lack of insects, it helps to pollinate the flowers manually.
A spot in partial shade is sufficient, it is easy to keep species.
The seeds germinate very easily, although it takes time, and as long as they have not dried completely and have gone through a stratification process (cold between 3º and 6º) for 90 to 120 days. Once the seeds are planted, they will sprout after three months, because before sprouting externally they generate the root system underground.
Minimum temperature: -25 degrees Celsius
