Orange Banana Tomato Seeds Organically Grown

Price for Package of 10 seeds.

An unusual and eye-catching oblong banana-shaped variety ripening to a bright yellow/orange skin. Plants are extremely vigorous and robust, with fruits that are meaty and popularly used in pastes and sauces. Great flavor and striking appearance.

Sow in spring 1/16 inch deep. Germination takes around 6-14 days at 65-75F.

Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle into 3-inch pots. Grow on under cooler conditions and when about 8 inches tall, either plant in their growing position in the greenhouse or gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions and plant out 18 inches apart in a warm and sunny spot in moist, fertile well-drained soil and keep watered.

What's the difference between "indeterminate" and "determinate" tomatoes?

Determinate tomatoes, or "bush" tomatoes, are varieties that grow to a compact height (generally 3 - 4'). Determinates stop growing when fruit sets on the top bud. All the tomatoes from the plant ripen at approximately the same time (usually over a period of 1- 2 weeks). They require a limited amount of staking for support and are perfectly suited for container planting.

Indeterminate tomatoes will grow and produce fruit until killed by frost. They can reach heights of up to 12 feet although 6 feet is normal. Indeterminates will bloom, set new fruit and ripen fruit all at the same time throughout the season. They require substantial staking for support and benefit from being constrained to a central growing stem.

Meaty, and has few seeds. Unusually for ox heart varieties, the Orange Russian Tomato is bi-coloured. It has golden flesh streaked with red – like a blood orange. A typical example of this type weighs in at over 500g . They are fruity (flavour-wise), and quite sweet. They are quite firm but equally as juicy. The Orange Russian Tomato is best grown as a vine, and is best side-shooted to maximize the strength the plant needs to support its fruit.. Crack resistant, too. We really love this tomato!

It is native to southern Europe, Russia, central Asia and parts of China where it inhabits coastal regions, lake shores, dry river beds and mountainous areas. It has also become naturalized throughout much of North America. In addition to its graceful habit and silvery leaves it is valued for its edible fruit, quality timber and fast-growing nature.

The narrow, lance-shaped leaves of Russian olive are green above and silvery, gray-green below. Its brown, scaly, often thorny branches are covered with exfoliating bark that adds winter interest. Silvery white, strongly fragrant flowers with yellow centers appear in late spring or early summer and are followed by edible, olive-like fruit.

This resilient tree is very tolerant of most growing conditions from dry to moist and sunny to shady. It is salt and drought tolerant and commonly found along sandy, coastal lands. Russian olive is grown primarily for its foliage and fragrant flowers but also makes an ideal barrier, screen or hedge, if pruned to retain a shrubby habit.
